If you’re walking down Wells Street you might notice BomboBar (1529 N Wells) has moved into Old Town! While new to the neighborhood, BomboBar has a large following stemming from their first location, a small ten-by-ten square foot space inside of Bar Siena, a restaurant in the West Loop. What started as Bar Siena’s dessert concept, owners DineAmic Group recognized the appeal BomboBar brought and decided to open a walk-up window off the side of Bar Siena on Green Street. As time passed, BomboBar has become so recognizable it created a demand to give the city’s popular concept a second location in Old Town. We’re not complaining!

An obsession that has gone beyond a cupcake replacement, BomboBar exposed dessert aficionados and doughnut fans to a new type of doughnut, the bomboloni! A bomboloni (bomb-bo-loni) is a holeless Italian doughnut infused with various filling flavors. Executive Chaf Fabio Viviani keeps the secret recipe ingredient close to his heart, but the “Bombo” has become a complement to the extravagant dessert items that has made BomboBar famous, such as different gelato creations and it’s insta-famous Hotter and Cooler Chocolates.

Don’t have much of a sweet tooth? While often overlooked by the sweet items, BomboBar’s savory menu is delicious! For breakfast, try BomboBar’s Breakfast sandwich or their Avocado Egg White open-faced sandwich with pickled chiles. For lunch or dinner try the BomboBurger or Crispy Chicken sandwich, both of which are Chef Viviani’s takes on the traditional meal.  Similar to the way a croissant can be used for both a sandwich and a pastry, BomboBar uses its bomboloni dough for both its sweet items like the bomboloni as well as a bun for its savory sandwiches.

While the Old Town community is certainly excited about having BomboBar, the DineAmic group is thrilled to be opening up in this neighborhood. “The Old Town neighborhood has a friendly and inviting vibe, just like BomboBar. From families walking around the street to groups heading out for the night to catch a comedy show or go to the bar, there are a lot of people out in the area at all hours of the day. BomboBar enjoys the livelihood of the neighborhood and wants to grasp everyone’s attention with its breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night eats.”

BomboBar opened its second location on Monday, April 15 and will be open daily serving breakfast, lunch and dinner options. Old Town’s BomboBar location will offer a serve-it-yourself liquor station and will include red, white and rose wine, along with a cocktail on tap and beer by the can or bottle.
